Sprinkles

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Sprinkles.

General

What is Sprinkles?

Sprinkles is an AI-powered children's story generator. You describe a story idea — by typing, speaking, or uploading an image — and the AI writes a complete illustrated storybook in seconds. Every page gets original artwork. Stories are public and free to read.

Is Sprinkles free?

Reading stories is completely free — no sign-in required. Story creation requires a Google sign-in. We may introduce usage limits or premium features in the future, but the core experience of creating and reading stories is free.

Do I need an account to use Sprinkles?

No account is needed to browse and read stories. To create your own stories, you need to sign in with a Google account. This takes one click — no separate registration, no passwords to remember.

What ages is Sprinkles designed for?

The stories are designed for children roughly ages 3-10, though anyone can enjoy them. The complexity of the story adapts to the prompt — simpler prompts produce simpler stories. Account holders must be 13 or older; younger children should use Sprinkles with a parent or guardian.

Creating Stories

How do I create a story?

Sign in with Google, type your story idea in the prompt box (or use the microphone to speak it, or upload an image), and tap "Generate." The AI writes and illustrates your story in seconds. You'll be taken directly to your new story as soon as it's ready.

What makes a good prompt?

Almost anything works. Here are some tips:

  • Be specific: "A brave mouse named Hazel who discovers a map to a hidden treehouse" gives better results than "a mouse story."
  • Include characters: mention who the main character is, what they look like, or what makes them special.
  • Set a scene: where does the story take place? An underwater kingdom? A cozy village? The moon?
  • Suggest a theme: friendship, courage, curiosity, kindness — the AI weaves these into the narrative naturally.
  • Short is fine too: even "a penguin learns to dance" produces a full, illustrated story.

Can I upload an image to inspire the story?

Yes. Tap the image upload button and share a photo, drawing, or any image. The AI analyzes what it sees and incorporates it into the story. This is especially magical for kids' drawings — upload a drawing of a character and the AI writes a story featuring that character. You can combine an image with a text prompt for more control.

Can I use my voice instead of typing?

Yes. Tap the microphone button and speak your story idea. Your voice is transcribed to text in real time and added to the prompt box. You can edit the transcription before submitting. This is great for kids who can express ideas more easily by talking than typing.

How long does story generation take?

The story text and first page illustration are usually ready within several seconds. You're redirected to your story as soon as page 1 is complete. The remaining page illustrations are generated in the background and appear progressively as you read — most are done by the time you reach them.

Can I edit a story after it's created?

You can change the story title from your dashboard. The story text and illustrations themselves cannot be edited after generation. If you're not happy with a story, you can generate a new one with a refined prompt — since generation is fast, iterating on prompts is easy.

Episodes and Forking

What are episodes?

Episodes are additional installments of a story. After creating a story, you can add new episodes that continue the adventure. The AI reads all previous episodes and maintains the same characters, setting, and plot. Each episode is a full set of illustrated pages, just like the original.

Does the AI remember what happened in previous episodes?

Yes. When generating a new episode, the AI receives the full context of previous episodes — the characters, events, and style guide. It uses this to maintain narrative continuity and visual consistency. Characters look the same and the story picks up where it left off.

What is forking?

Forking lets you create a new story that branches off from someone else's story. You take the same characters and world but send the adventure in a new direction with your own prompt. The fork is a completely independent story under your account — the original is unaffected. It's a way to do collaborative storytelling with the Sprinkles community.

Can I fork my own story?

If you add an episode to your own story, it's a continuation (same story, new episode). If you want to create an alternative branch — "what if the story went differently?" — you can create a new story with a different prompt inspired by the original.

How do multi-episode stories look?

A story with one episode shows the reader directly — you see the pages and swipe through. A story with multiple episodes gets a landing page showing the cover image, episode count, and a grid of all episodes. Readers can jump to any episode or read from the beginning.

Languages

What languages does Sprinkles support?

Sprinkles supports any language that the underlying AI model can handle, which includes most major world languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Hindi, and many more.

How do I create a story in another language?

Just write your prompt in that language. Sprinkles automatically detects the language and generates the entire story — text, title, and all — in that language. There's no language selector; the AI follows your lead. You can also use voice input in any supported language.

Are the illustrations affected by language?

No. Regardless of what language your story is in, the AI internally translates scene descriptions into English for the image generator. Image quality and style are consistent across all languages.

Safety and Privacy

Is the content safe for kids?

Sprinkles uses AI models with built-in safety filters, and our system is specifically tuned for children's content generation. That said, AI is not perfect. We recommend parents preview stories before sharing them with younger children. If you encounter inappropriate content, please report it to us at hello@sprinklesstories.com.

Are stories public?

Yes, by default. Stories you create are listed in the public Sprinkles library and can be read by anyone. You can unlist stories from your dashboard — unlisted stories are still accessible by their direct URL but don't appear in the public feed or search.

What data do you collect?

We collect your Google profile information (name, email, picture) for your account, and the prompts you submit to generate stories. We use a single session cookie — no advertising trackers. Voice recordings are transcribed and immediately discarded. See our full Privacy Policy for details.

Can my child use Sprinkles independently?

Children under 13 should use Sprinkles with a parent or guardian. The account holder must be 13 or older. The most common setup is a parent signing in with their own Google account while the child provides the creative input — describing the story idea by typing, speaking, or drawing.

Can I delete my stories or account?

You can unlist stories from the public feed through your dashboard. For full account and data deletion, contact us at hello@sprinklesstories.com and we'll process your request.

Technical

What AI does Sprinkles use?

Sprinkles uses Google's Gemini AI models for both story writing and illustration generation. For voice transcription, we use OpenAI's Whisper model. These are among the most advanced AI models available, and they're specifically configured for safe, age-appropriate children's content.

Why does the AI sometimes produce unexpected results?

AI is creative but not perfectly predictable. Sometimes the AI will interpret your prompt differently than you intended, or produce an illustration that doesn't quite match the scene. This is the nature of generative AI — each generation is unique. If a story doesn't match your vision, try rephrasing or adding more detail to your prompt and generate again.

Why are some illustrations still loading when I open my story?

To get your story to you as fast as possible, Sprinkles generates the first page illustration immediately and begins generating the rest in the background. By the time you read through the first few pages, the remaining illustrations are usually ready. You'll see them appear automatically — no refresh needed.

Does Sprinkles work on mobile?

Yes. Sprinkles is designed as a mobile-first experience. The story reader uses swipe gestures (swipe left to advance, swipe right to go back) and is optimized for phone and tablet screens. Story creation, voice input, and image upload all work on mobile browsers.

Can I download or print my stories?

Currently, stories are read online through their unique URLs. There's no built-in download or print feature yet, but each story has a permanent link you can save and return to anytime.
