How It Works

Everything starts with your idea. Open Sprinkles, sign in with Google, and tell us what kind of story you want. You have three ways to do this:

• Type a prompt — describe your story in plain language. It can be a single sentence ("a dog who discovers a secret garden") or a detailed paragraph with characters, settings, and plot points. The more detail you give, the more tailored the story will be.
• Use your voice — tap the microphone button and speak your idea out loud. Your voice is transcribed to text in real time, so you can tell a story idea as naturally as you'd describe it to a friend.
• Upload an image — share a photo, drawing, or any image. The AI will analyze the image and weave what it sees into the story. This is especially fun for kids who draw their own characters and want to see them come to life in a narrative.

You can also combine these — upload a child's drawing and add a text prompt like "make a story about this character going to space."

Once you submit your prompt, our AI gets to work. It reads your idea — including any uploaded image — and writes a complete children's story broken into individual pages. Each story typically has around 7 pages, each with its own narrative text and a detailed description for the illustration.

The AI is specifically tuned for children's storytelling. It creates age-appropriate content with engaging characters, clear narrative arcs, and gentle morals when appropriate. It also generates a style guide — a detailed description of what each character looks like — so that the illustrations stay consistent throughout the story.

Language detection is automatic. Write your prompt in Spanish, and the story comes back in Spanish. Write in Japanese, and you get a Japanese story. The AI detects the language of your input and generates the entire narrative in that language, while keeping the illustration instructions in English for the image generator.

This is where the magic really happens. For every page of the story, our AI generates a unique, original illustration based on the scene described in the text. These aren't stock images or clip art — each one is a custom-made piece of artwork created specifically for your story.

The first page's illustration is generated immediately so you can start reading right away. The remaining pages' illustrations are created in the background — you'll see them appear as you read through the story, usually completing within moments of the text.

Character consistency is a key feature. When the AI writes the story, it creates a style guide describing each character's appearance in detail — their clothing, colors, features, and distinguishing traits. This style guide is prepended to every illustration prompt, so the same bunny in a red scarf on page 1 looks like the same bunny in a red scarf on page 7.

The moment generation finishes, your story is live. It gets its own permanent URL that you can share with anyone — family, friends, classmates, or on social media. No downloads, no exports, no extra steps. Just a link.

Your story also appears in the public Sprinkles library, where anyone can discover it by browsing or scrolling through the home page. If you prefer to keep it more private, you can unlist it from your dashboard — it will still be accessible by its direct link, but won't show up in the public feed.

The reader experience is designed for kids and mobile devices. Stories are presented as swipeable pages — swipe left to go forward, swipe right to go back — with large illustrations and readable text. It feels like flipping through a real picture book.

Stories on Sprinkles don't have to end after one episode. At the end of any story, you can tap "Add Episode" and describe what happens next. The AI picks up right where the last episode left off — same characters, same world, same art style — and writes a new chapter of the adventure.

The AI reads all previous episodes before generating the next one, so it maintains continuity. Characters remember what happened, plot threads carry forward, and the style guide ensures the illustrations stay visually consistent across episodes.

Multi-episode stories get their own landing page with a cover image and an episode grid, so readers can jump to any episode or read from the beginning.

See a story you love and want to take in a different direction? Forking lets you do exactly that. When you fork someone else's story, Sprinkles creates a brand-new story under your account that starts with the same characters and context, but branches off from your new prompt.

The original story stays untouched — your fork is completely independent. You can add your own episodes, change the direction, and make it fully yours. It's like collaborative storytelling: one person starts, and anyone can take the characters on a new adventure.
