The mountain road had one narrow place, and Snorlax was asleep across all of it. Jigglypuff looked up at him and up again. "Too big to move," she said. Beside her, Mareep said, "But I have to be home before the lanterns."
Jigglypuff could do one thing, so she did it. She took a big breath and sang her slow, round song. Snorlax began to snore deeper than before, and Mareep's eyes slid halfway shut. Jigglypuff clapped both hands over her own mouth.
So she stopped singing and took the same big breath again. This time she kept it. Jigglypuff swelled up round as a balloon and lifted off the road, and Mareep caught hold of her feet. Snorlax was too big to move, so they went over the top of him.
In the village the lanterns were already lit, and Mareep was home. Jigglypuff stood at the gate and looked back at the dark ridge. "Snorlax will wake up in the dark," she said, "and nobody will be there." Then she turned around and started up the road again.
Jigglypuff sat down by Snorlax's ear and sang the slow song on purpose this time. His snoring went soft and even, like water. Mareep came up the road behind her and stood close, and the little light on his tail lit the pass all night. Snorlax was too big to move, so they moved to him.
