The next day, Mayor Mabel gathered everyone in the town square. “Let’s build a new part of Mole Town far away, just in case,” she said. Milo and Max nodded, and the digging team marched off with brave, quiet steps.
They dug and dug, making a long, smooth tunnel. The dirt was soft, and the work felt steady and calm. Then Milo’s paw felt something cool and damp in the wall.
A thin stream of water began to trickle from a tiny hole. “An underground lake!” Max whispered, watching the water sparkle in the lantern light. The stream grew faster, and the tunnel floor started to get muddy.
“Rocks and ground—quickly!” called Mayor Mabel. The Mole Town Crowd packed stones and dirt into the hole until the water slowed to just a drip. Everyone cheered softly, but the plug wobbled and shivered.
Drip… drip… the water pushed again, and the plug began to leak. Milo took a deep breath. “We need a better idea than a simple block,” he said, and the whole town started thinking of a smart, safe plan… to be continued!
